Mammoth Trip

Trip to Mammoth Lakes in the
Beautiful California Sierra Nevada Mountains

Official Winter Planning Guide | Mammoth Mountain

Mammoth is about a 6-hour drive from where we live.  My sister's company has a condo for the employees to use.  Alana signed us up!  We decided to go in the summer so when August came, we packed our car and road-tripped into the Sierra Nevadas.

We were greeted by a grizzly bear!  Not really, but there were many signs warning us of the presence of bears.

Day 1:  We rented bikes and took a path that was well-paved, well-used, and very scenic.  Funny thing was that not many others were pedaling up the path.  Most people were walking or riding an electric bike.  Maybe this was because the path went straight up the mountain and we couldn't go very far without stopping to catch our breath.

What a view from the top of the mountain!  We admired the landscape and then noticed a trolley filled with passengers coming to a stop near-by.  The trolley was loaded with bikes on the front.  The trolley stopped, people got out, mounted their bikes, and pedaled down the mountain we had just struggled to ride up.  So that's how the path was supposed to be used!

Day 2:  The next day we were pretty sore from our bike ride so we decided to do something that involved sitting.  We took a gondola up the mountain and enjoyed the views.  We were dropped off at the top of Mammoth Mountain--elevation 11,000 feet.

Me on top of the world!

Day 3:  We were ready to hike again!  We went to Devil's Postpile National Monument

I kept lagging behind on the trail.  My dad was concerned that I keep up so as not to be hauled off by a bear.  There were signs everywhere of what to do in the event of an encounter.  Scary!

At the end of the hike we arrived at Rainbow Falls.

Day 4:  We went to June Lake and enjoyed some kayaking and beautiful scenery

Thanks, Alana for a great trip!
